WHAT IS RINGWORM?

Ringworm (aka tina corporis) is a contagious infection that occurs on the surface of the skin. It is caused by various types of fungus, the same as those that cause athlete’s foot. The name comes from the characteristic ring that appears on the infected person’s skin. Despite its name, the condition has nothing to do with actual worms. School-age children are commonly affected.

Think you may have ringworm? Want to know how to treat it, or avoid it altogether? Read on for prevention and treatment tips.

How to Prevent

Tolnaftate is an antifungal that works by preventing the growth of fungus, and can be used to prevent athlete’s foot. Lotrimin® Daily Prevention (Tolnaftate) is designed to use daily and prevents most athlete’s foot, while absorbing sweat and fighting odor.

In addition to applying Lotrimin® Daily Prevention once or twice daily,* the following tips will help prevent most athlete’s foot:

  • Wash feet daily.
  • Dry feet well, including between the toes.
  • Avoid walking barefoot.
  • Wear shoes in locker rooms or common shower areas.
  • Use powder.
  • Wear well-fitting, ventilated shoes.
  • Alternate your shoes to allow for air drying.
  • Wear socks that keep your feet dry.
  • Change shoes and socks at least once daily.
  • Do not share shoes or towels with others.

*Treatment directions vary by product. Follow directions on the package.
